Equality in Canada with Stan Farber
Join AJA's own Stan Farber, Former Department of Justice Senior Counsel, for a presentation that will provide insight on the equality provision in the Canadian Charter and how the law adapts when society itself begins to change. , Stan will discuss matters relating to equality, marriage, assisted human reproduction and cannabis legalization, focussing on how common law couples gained equal recognition with married couples under the law, how same-sex couples gained marriage rights through the redefinition of civil marriage and how Canada kept pace with science, ethics and social norms. It is an inside look, with personal anecdotes, at how the Charter, Courts and Government interacted to shape outcomes that continue to affect Canadians today.
