A82 Issues in Indigenous Health and Allyship with Dr Sarah Konwahahawi Rourke
Dr Sarah Konwahahawi Rourke has chosen to speak to us on Indigenous health, health equity, and cultural safety. Of special significance to our community, she has proposed to discuss practices in allyship as well - allyship being active support for the rights of a minority or marginalized group without being a member of it.
Dr Rourke is a member of the Akwesasne Mohawk Nation. She is Director of the Indigenous Health Professions Program (IHPP) in the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences at McGill University. Her work providing support and guidance in the development of Indigenous health teaching curricula. is based on needs and priorities identified by Indigenous communities. Her responsibilities include identifying areas of alignment with the Truth and Reconciliation Commission Calls to Action.
